Ron Boeding is currently a medical student at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.  Although his love of photography goes far back into his past, he only began composing these digital-picture mosaics in his first year of medical school.  It was a way for Ron to feed the creative half of his brain while steeped into the medical curriculum.  There were several paintings showcased in the brand-new medical school building, done by the students and he had heard they were looking for new student art to display.

. . .That got Ron to think about something big.

He was at a college football game in the historic Kinnick Stadium, in the middle of the student section, and it was there that he wanted to try and capture that moment.  He knew that just one picture of the scene couldn't do it justice.  He wondered if maybe 200 pictures would.  The following week's game proved to be a perfect subject, as it was Iowa's arch-rival Michigan, and after a late 4th quarter score and subsequent defensive stand, he had an entire game full of pictures and many of the crowd's moods to sprinkle throughout the mosaic.  The Kinnick stadium piece was Ron's first major work, and it still hangs in the main hallway of the medical school building.

. . .But it was only the beginning.

Ron has since produced over 10 large-scale pieces in the same mosaic style.  They stem from his observations of people and places, and they all exist because a single photo alone could not capture the dynamic nature of the subject's scene.

On a more personal note, besides becoming a future M.D., Ron is  married to a talented and beautiful woman (who also happens to be in his medical school class).  His family is predominantly from Iowa, though he was born in Colorado.  He is the middle child of three with both an older sister (who taught him respect for women) and a younger brother (who made him a more imaginative person).  Besides photography, Ron's interests include traveling and world history.  He thought he would be a professional author before a professional photographer or artist.  He is fascinated by medical science and technology but started as an ecology enthusiast and more of an abstract-poet-type than a math whiz.

Many of Ron's works are from foreign countries and he believes that photography and travel go hand-in-hand as they both demand observation and a sense for the surrounding.  The times and places he has traveled show him what is different from where he is, but just as important, they show him what is the same.  The bright sky, the wind-blown branches, and rain-worn buildings are always present. . .just waiting to have their picture taken.

Thank you for your interest in my work.  For every piece here, there is another just waiting to be made.  If there is a place that you would love to see through my eyes, please let me know.
